The Supreme Court announced today that it has granted leave to appeal in State v. Pinkston. The question presented, as phrased by the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office, is “In this criminal justice reform matter, did the trial court abuse its discretion in denying defendant’s request to call certain police officers as ‘adverse witnesses’ at the pretrial detention hearing?”
As with other Criminal Justice Reform Act cases, the Court ordered this appeal accelerated, and directed that oral argument be scheduled for March 12 or 13, 2018. Proposed amici must file their motions and briefs by noon on January 8, 2018, and the State and defendant are to file any answer to any amicus motion, along with their proposed response brief to any amicus, by noon on February 5, 2018.
