Check Out the ABA’s 18th Annual Class Actions Institute- October 23-24, 2014, in Chicago

The 18th Annual American Bar Association Class Actions Institute will take place on October 23 and 24 at theWit Hotel in Chicago.  The full brochure for the Institute can be found here

The faculty includes not only luminaries from the plaintiffs’ and defense bars, but also (among others) top-flight mediators, notice/settlement administrators, and professors from at least seven different law schools (including my Corporations professor, Professor John C. Coffee of Columbia Law School).  To top it all off, no less than six District Judges from the host district, the Northern District of Illinois, led by Chief Judge Castillo, are on the Institute faculty.

I am on a panel with one of those judges, Judge Kendall, as well as the Institute’s Chair (another plaintiffs’ counsel) and two defense lawyers.  We will present a three-act play in which each side will play out its approach to class certification of an actual pending class action case, from the time that plaintiffs develop the case through an oral argument before Judge Kendall.  My partner at Lite DePalma Greenberg, LLC, Katrina Carroll of our Chicago office, is on another panel, headlined by Judge Darrah, that will discuss data breach class actions, an increasingly hot topic.

The Institute will offer much more than just “talking heads.”  Anyone who has any role in class actions will find it very worthwhile.  There is a discount for registering by September 24, so don’t delay.  See you in the Windy City!
