The Supreme Court of New Jersey announced yesterday that webcasts of archived Supreme Court oral arguments can now be viewed in an MP4 format, on notepads, smart phones, or other mobile devices. Previously, oral arguments could be viewed only using Windows Media Player, which usually is not installed on mobile devices.
Though apparently only archived webcasts, not live ones, are viewable in this new way, this still represents another step forward by the Supreme Court in making webcast oral arguments available to the public. The Supreme Court of the United States does not make video of oral arguments available to the public in any way, a regrettable policy.
